Two strikes by Chester's Mark Beesley ensured Forest Green Rovers' dreadful form in the Nationwide Conference continued.
However, Rovers were able to match their opponents up until their first goal with Chester's first clear chance coming after 24 minutes when Michael Twiss laid the ball back for Steve Brodie, whose thumping shot bounced off the post and was cleared.
However on the half hour a free-kick on the edge of the Rovers penalty area was handled by captain Martin Foster, which left Beesley to dispatch the spot-kick to the left-hand corner.
Four minutes later, Alan McLoughlin's ball over the top of the Chester defence found Neil Grayson whose header was well blocked by keeper Wayne Brown.
Some neat passing between Beesley and Twiss created a superb second goal for Chester, with time in the first half almost up. Beesley broke down the right wing and sent a low cross into the penalty area which Twiss gathered and he knocked the ball back to the incoming Beesley whose shot just beat Steve Perrin to hit the back of the net.
The visitors almost increased the lead further after the interval when a deep cross from the right found Scott Guyett whose downward header needed Perrin to palm the ball away.
Rovers began to improve just after the hour with Kayode Odejayi and Foster both getting efforts on target, but neither troubled Brown in the Chester goal.
Chester came close with 20 minutes remaining when after a string of passes Jimmy Kelly's chip into the Forest Green penalty area was volleyed wide by Twiss, but Rovers were not able to keep up their improvement and Chester came away with the three points.
After the match Forest Green chairman Trevor Horsley announced that manager Nigel Spink's contract had been terminated
